How to buy an Around The World Ticket
It is often very confusing when you come to buy your ticket. You obviously want to get the best price and the ticket that will best suit you. The best starting point is to select the countries that you would like to travel too. There is a simple guide line to this. British Airways offer a standard around the world ticket. The price of this ticket is exceptionally good value and you should expect to pay in the region of £1000 for it. This ticket allows you to make 7 flights, starting and finishing in the same country. You can’t cover more than 29,000 miles and this allowance takes in to account both air and land miles. You may also decide to make some internal flights which would be part of the 7 flights allowed. When deciding on the countries you would like to visit it is best to look in terms of continents. So you may fancy visiting Africa, South America, Australia, North America or Asia. Once you have decided on the continents you can select flights in and out of these areas with planned over land travel in between. For example you may decide to fly in to Bangkok in Thailand and fly out of Singapore. This would allow for plenty of overland travel and would fit in with the ticket specifications. Once you have decided on the countries you would like to travel too, you should check the availability of flights and flight paths within the ticket specifications. It is not possible for you to zig zag all over the place and you may find that BA don’t fly between certain destinations. However, these tickets are pretty flexible so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a suitable route. When purchasing a ticket it is wise to bear in mind that your plans will probably change over the course of your travels. You will find places that you love and want to stay longer and you will find places that you want to get out of fast. So approaching your travels with an open mind is the best option. Of course you have to plan your destinations at the start of your trip but be prepared to change them as you go along. The BA ticket allows you to change times and dates on your flight whenever you want and for no fee. You can change destinations for a ticket re-issuing fee of £50. It is quite common for people to near the end of their travels and want to stay longer but their ticket is only valid for a year. (this is the case with the BA ticket above). So, if you think that you may want to travel for longer than a year you should consider buying a one way ticket. A good example of this would be a three or four stop ticket. You may decide to end the ticket in New Zealand and stop at three places on the way. Another advantage of this type of ticket is you don’t need to plan all your destinations at the start of your travels. You will find that whilst travelling you will talk to people and they will wet your appetite for different countries. So, once you have finished your first ticket and are loaded with fresh info you can plan the second half of your trip. The biggest tip for this type of ticket is to lock away the money back home for the return half of your travels. You must resist the temptation to spend the cash because you definitely don’t want to be stuck on the other side of the world with no way of returning home!! Whatever your requirements or specifications there is a ticket out there for you. Just follow these simple steps to help you on your way – 1 - Choose the continents you want to visit2 - Arrange the airports and overland stretches 3 - Decide how long you want to go for 4 - Negotiate your route with the airlines (make a compromise between their specifications and your preferred route) By using these steps as a guide it should save some confusion and before long you will be well on your way to
the trip of a life time. |
